The Seven Spiritual Laws for Parents

By: Deepak Chopra.

Here’s an easy read for Parents who want to set a spiritual foundation for their children early on. This book emphasizes on the book “The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success” also written by Deepak Chopra. In this book for parents, you will be guided with a daily routine to incorporate spirituality in your child’s life. Here is a quick glimpse at what your week would look like:

Sunday- The Day of Pure Potentiality

The lesson here is that all things are possible. Today you show your child how to meditate for a few minutes, appreciate nature and all its beauty and wonder, and see things in different ways.

Monday- Day of Giving

Today we teach our children “If you want to get something, give it.” Have your child give something to someone else in the family.  Allow them to also receive graciously, lastly create a brief ritual of gratitude for life’s gifts.

Tuesday- Day of Karma

“When you make a choice, you change the future”. Talk about choices made, show them how our future was changed by a past choice, explain right and wrong in terms of how choices feel.

Wednesday- Day of Least Effort ( Allows us to recognize life as it unfolds without interference)

Find the game in at least one task, reduce the effort it takes to accomplish something important, look for ways nature has helped us.

Thursday- Day of Intention and Desire

“Today we emphasize to our children that every time you wish or want, you plant a seed.” Here you will list clearly all our desires for the week ( you can post list on the fridge) You can guide your child and ask what do they wish for the week?, for someone else?, try to avoid a list of material items) Encourage your child to want happiness and fulfillment and other spiritual rewards. Then you will release the desires for Nature to fulfill. Be alert in the present moment where fulfillment occurs. Have your child point out how each desire is coming true. This emphasizes to your child that god/spirit/universe is always listening and we are not alone.

Friday- The Day of Detachment

Today we tell our children “Enjoy the journey.”

“A complete vision of life must include the realization that anything and everything is destined to happen and our role is to remain open to uncertainty and surprise.

Today talk about the “real you.” Deepak shows us to do this by telling our children that everyone has an invisible friend who looks after everything you do. This friend lives in your heart and is always with us. The friends name is the same as your child’s name because your friend is really a part of you. This friend reminds us that we are loved and when we are sad or angry we should shut our eyes and ask our friend to remind us that we are loved and to love ourselves. Next, Show them that uncertainty can be good and no one has to have all the answers – here you can communicate this with surprises, unexpected treats bring joy to both giver and receiver. Lastly,  teach them to feel balanced about loss and gain. Loss can be an opportunity to teach a child that the “real you” is all right no matter what. You can say “ I know you feel bad now, but it’s only a thing, and you are here for much more important reasons than the things you own or don’t own.”

Saturday- day of Dharma

Today we tell our children “You are here for a reason”

Ask your child “Where are you right now?” This is how you explore your child’s perspective on purpose and progress. Encourage your child unique talents and abilities. Lastly, invite them to perform an act of service. Serving others helps us recognize how special others are and you value their worth.

I really enjoyed this book and I highly recommend it!
